1st Grade Field Trip to Mount Vernon
Earlier this month, our first graders embarked on an exciting field trip to Mount Vernon, the estate of America's first president, George Washington. Stepping back in time, they immersed themselves in the captivating world of 18th-century plantation life through a series of engaging demonstrations at the Farm, named Colonial Days.
They learned the art of crafting hearty mashed potatoes, a staple in colonial cuisine, using traditional methods and simple ingredients. Students also participated in grinding corn to create the foundation for cornmeal, a versatile ingredient used in various dishes. The highlight of the day, however, was undoubtedly the tour of George Washington's Mansion along the Potomac River. Our first graders had so much fun and learning on their trip!
