2nd Grade Explores Native American Life at Ellanor C. Lawrence Park!
Our 2nd graders stepped back in time with a fascinating trip to Ellanor C. Lawrence Park! Just like last year, they had an amazing day learning about Native American life in Fairfax County.
This immersive experience gave students a glimpse into the lives of the Eastern Woodland Indians and their deep connection to the land we now call home. The park provided the perfect backdrop for exploring the rich history and culture of the people who lived here long ago.
The field trip was a whirlwind of hands-on activities and engaging learning experiences. Students rotated through three stations, each focusing on a unique aspect of Native American life:
- Storytelling: Gathered around a cozy campfire, students were captivated by traditional tales from woodland Native Americans.
- Skills and Games: Students got to try their hand at corn grinding, play a traditional corn dart game, and learn about the skills and jobs practiced by Native Americans in this area.
- Nature Hike: A trail hike turned into a mini-adventure as students searched for native plants and animals, discovering the natural resources used by the Eastern Woodland Indians.
It was a day filled with laughter, discovery, and a deeper appreciation for the history and culture of our region.
