Ms. Bailey Recognized as FCPS CARES of the Month Recipient!
Congratulations to Lesli Bailey on being recognized as the September 2021 Region 2 FCPS CARES of the Month recipient the Department of Human Resources!
Below is the write up submitted by Meredith Hulley, a colleague at Columbia Elementary School.
Lesli was a classroom monitor at Columbia last year but was hired as a PAC IA over the summer. She taught virtually this summer and then showed up to the school to find that both our PAC teacher and our experienced PAC IA were out on leave. She jumped right in setting up her classroom and preparing for the students to come. When the school year started, she had a rotating group of special-education teachers and IAs who would be in the PAC room for anywhere from 45 minutes to three hours. She didn't let this bother her at all but stepped into a leadership role to give directions and ensure that the students experienced safety and consistency while forming relationships and getting to know their new environment. Related service providers, administrators, and coaches came in to help and she listened intently to instruction that would typically go to the teacher so that she could make sure the students were provided with what they needed. And while someone else may have found this situation frustrating, Lesli did the whole thing with a smile on her face and expressed immense gratitude to her coworkers. We are so lucky to have her at Columbia!
