Below is the write-up submitted by a Columbia Elementary School parent.

I have three sons, and all my sons went through Columbia Elementary School. My youngest is currently in Ms. Steib's class. She is one of the best teachers from my Columbia elementary 15-year experience. My son is thriving in her class. We went through a horrible trauma in our family, and he needs special attention. Ms. Steib, at the very beginning of the school year, was able to meet with me on the same day after school hours to explain and show me what was needed for my son to have a successful year. She was willing to help from the very beginning! Ms. Steib is super organized, and that benefits my son. He has his life in order. He became more organized at home and less forgetful. The values she teaches children are incredible. At this pre-teen age, whatever parents say is not heard or barely heard, it's important to have a good teacher who is not just teaching academics, but also gives them advice that can benefit them for the rest of their lives. For example, she told kids in class that people should communicate in person with each other more, they should look into each other's faces and not into gadgets.

Ms. Steib truly inspired my son to love reading real books! He devours books, and at just 10 years old, his Christmas wish was for more books to read—something rare among kids his age, who often prefer gadgets. Thanks to her influence, he has become more articulate, open to communication, engaged in conversations, and less shy. He no longer fears making mistakes. If I had the power to give an award, Ms. Steib would receive the highest honor from me! Thank you for having such an incredible teacher on your staff—she is truly a treasure!
