Earlier this month, second grade visited Ellanor C. Lawrence Park to learn about Native American Life in Fairfax County. Students explored what life may have been like for Eastern Woodland Indians and the relationship they had with the land that is now Fairfax County.

The field trip was a blast as the kids got to rotate among three different stations, each focusing on a unique aspect of Native American culture. They had a chance to learn about the skills and jobs practiced by Native Americans in this area, as well as their use of natural resources.

One station was all about storytelling around a cozy campfire. The children were captivated by a fascinating tale from woodland Native Americans. Another station involved hands-on activities like corn grinding and a corn dart game. The kids absolutely loved getting their hands dirty and experiencing traditional Native American practices firsthand. To cap it off, there was an exciting trail hike where the children got to search for native plants and animals. It was like going on a mini adventure right in our own backyard! After all the fun and learning, everyone settled down for a delightful picnic lunch. The kids enjoyed bonding with their friends while refueling with delicious food. Overall, it was an incredible day filled with laughter, exploration, and discovery. We're so grateful to everyone who made this field trip possible!
