Veterans Day at Columbia
On November 10, 2023, Columbia ES was honored to welcome veterans to our school to share their stories and read aloud to our students. The veterans came from all branches of the military. The students were excited to meet the veterans and learn about their experiences.
The veterans began by sharing their stories with the students. They talked about their decision to join the military, their experiences in training, and their deployments. They also talked about the challenges they faced and the lessons they learned. The veterans also read aloud to the students. They chose books that were related to their military service and that taught important lessons about courage and sacrifice.
After the read-aloud, the students had the opportunity to ask the veterans questions. The students asked a variety of questions, including what it was like to be in the military, what their favorite memory was from their service, and what advice they would give to young people today. At the end of the visit, students thanked the veterans for their service and for sharing their stories with them.
Columbia ES was grateful for the opportunity to host our veterans and to learn from their experiences. The veterans' visit was a valuable educational experience for our students. It taught them about the importance of military service and the sacrifices that veterans have made for our country. We are grateful for the opportunity to have hosted these veterans at our school and to have learned from their experiences.
